Downtown Huntsville was born in 1805 when John Hunt built his cabin near Big Spring. Just a few years later, Huntsville became Alabama’s first capital — and its downtown streets still tell that story through beautiful preserved architecture and historic landmarks.
Explore the Twickenham and Old Town Historic Districts, where you’ll find Greek Revival and Victorian homes, the Weeden House Museum, and Constitution Hall Park, where Alabama’s very first state constitution was signed.
Huntsville has long been known for rockets and research, but downtown gives us the creative balance — where artists, musicians, and dreamers thrive.
Huntsville Museum of Art anchors Big Spring Park with beautiful rotating exhibits and community classes.
Wander through the Quigley Arts & Entertainment District, and you’ll spot dozens of murals that make up the Downtown Secret Art Trail.

Downtown Huntsville is proof that a city of engineers can also have the heart of an artist.
